The Westinghouse WGen9500DFc adds propane operation to the WGen9500 platform. That flexibility comes with lower rated output on propane: 8,500 running/11,200 peak watts versus 9,500/12,500 on gasoline.
Choose fuel with the load plan
If essential loads need more than 8,500 running watts or have large simultaneous starts, the propane rating governs when propane is selected. Westinghouse’s WGen9500DFc product page lists up to 12 hours at 25% load on the 6.6-gallon gasoline tank and up to 7 hours on a 20-pound propane tank. Treat both as test-condition estimates.
Propane stores without stale-gas concerns, but cylinders need legal, ventilated outdoor storage and adequate vaporization in cold weather. Gasoline offers the higher rating and needs rotation, stabilized storage where appropriate, and safe refueling.
Home connection and safety
The panel includes 120/240-volt L14-30R and 14-50R receptacles. A qualified electrician should size the inlet, transfer equipment, conductors, and load strategy. Never backfeed.
The exact WGen9500DFc manual requires outdoor operation in a well-ventilated area away from openings. CPSC says the generator should be outdoors at least 20 feet from the home, with exhaust facing away from the home and nearby buildings; see its carbon-monoxide guidance . The CO sensor is an additional shutdown feature; it does not make a garage, porch enclosure, or shed safe.
Verdict
Choose the WGen9500DFc when propane storage materially improves outage readiness and the lower propane output still covers the written load plan. The gasoline-only WGen9500c route remains distinct for buyers who do not need a second fuel system.
